Tom Nelson is the executive vice president and chief credit officer for New Republic Bank. He oversees the processes, policies and procedures for credit approvals for all firm lending activities.

Tom has extensive experience in senior leadership roles overseeing lending and credit approval practices in financial services firms. He has experience in working with boards of directors and in achieving corporate growth as a member of executive teams.

Prior to joining the firm, he was the executive vice president and senior credit officer for a multi-state region of Iberiabank. Tom also served as the executive vice president and chief credit officer at BNC Bank where he was responsible for the safety and soundness of the bank’s $6 billion loan portfolio.

He served in several roles at SterlingSouth Bank, including chief credit officer and interim president.

Tom also brings experience in business merger and acquisition activities. He led the integration of the credit functions from 10+ acquired institutions into a growth-oriented financial services organization.

His early career experience includes service as a Captain in the USMC as a naval aviator. He received an Honorable Discharge from the USMC before beginning his financial services career.

Tom earned his B.S. in business administration at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
